Thanks a lot for the quick response Fodder. Sometimes I think there should be a simple fix to my problems when in reality my problems are very complex. I have fixed the stair problem without really knowing what was wrong or why the change I made fixed it. Let's hope it stays fixed.
Your answer has brought up even more questions. The tutorial uses static mesh stairs and collision hull. I am not using a static mesh for my stairs, so I tried to mimic the example in the tutorial by making my own stairs and collision hull and stair volume. You state that you use an invisible ramp. Dang. What a simple solution. So I can build stairs with the builder brush and lay an invisible ramp over them and get the same effect as a collision hull and stair volume? Does the ramp have to be a static mesh or can I build one with the brush? Also, what does the collision hull and stair volume do?
Thanks again for the help.
No, I’m not a pessimist. At some point the world shits on everybody. Pretending it ain’t shit makes you an idiot, not an optimist. -http://shitmydadsays.tumblr.com/

you could technically just use a blocking volume and in the properties menue open the collision tab
set the bullet go through to true
set block karma to false
basically the same settings the SM has on any stair ramp
the sm in the stock games for stairs arnt actually collision hull's like in a ladder volume, their just a SM.
the ladder volume is what controls everything regarding how your character interacts with the world and moving from one elevation to another.
anything more advanced than that is beyond my ability to describe, i just understand the nuts and bolts of whats going on and the purpose behind it.
as i said before it would be great to look at your map, i cant stress how many new map builders i try and explain to build on the grid line with toggle grid snap turned on and everyone always seems to say yes ok, and then when i look at their map they didn't do it.
it is the number 1 reason so many maps get BSP rips and errors in the map when trying to zone them. if you arnt building a solid foundation to start with it only gets harder and harder to fix it the more complex your map becomes.
anyways i hope this has helped and look forward to checking out your creation.

Sry...thrrr...there was some "canyon" these days 4 me. Back and ready keep the "Map Building Challenge"!
Fodder ``` Its nice youve helped fix my First map. Pple who is interested in right technic, probably, will found a good example. Myself never even thought to challenge someone this time - im off the party. But i surely will try as much as i can, to bring some fresh ideas 4 the pple that new.
And finaly. I really give a ... about the future of my really first map, I suggest to dublicate(3) whole map to make somth like square. It could be bigger. I really not sure. If map alright 4 SS mostly - using it,modified it or improove (why not).

Why the hell you need collision hall??? Isnt it to allow the bullets physics in the game when someone on the stairs? So if not, even AI terrorist sometimes can runs trough (if they got luck). why??

Hi..I just sent my first map to the email id provided here for map submission. Its called Rabs_Coffin. Its bug free and it can be played in single or co-op mode. I am not sure how to make it playable for adversarial mode. Please take a look at it and let me know if it was worth the effort

Take a close look. This is unfinished scheme at second day of the challenge. this probably could be interesting to watch now. lot of easy info inside... but unfinished. idea were about to invite random guys to make the same map. now i see its hard enough. but still funny, b/c modeling are funny are. This about to show how easy to model something. Much more then fun if you have scheme. MS PAINT only.
Good luck to imaginations in future.
